Welcome Splash

By the look of this website, I have some cleaning up and organizing to do now! Don't tell me that I have another area to organize! UGH! Update: I haven't been able to update the site since the first part of December because Tripod was changing servers and sitebuilder wasn't available! It's nice to be back!Hopefully by the first of the year when we really need it, the site will include more information with more links!

Maybe I should change the title of the pages because I've recently changed diets to a modified South Beach Diet/Weight Watchers combined and will include some information from both programs when I have more time to update the site! As of now however, most of the information is about the Mount Sinai South Beach Diet. Hopefully it won't get too big and be booted from Tripod. By the way, the advertisements you see placed here are placed by Tripod and have nothing to do with my site. This is a free site and I must put up with these banner ads. Small price to pay though in reality!

Hi! This website has an abundance of information for newbies to the South Beach Diet! I did some research on the SBD through the forum at the Prevention and MSN websites. The forums are a great place to become more familiar with the diet until you buy the book and in fact, they are even more help for ongoing support! SBD is more like a way of eating or way of life. It's not a diet in the sense that you don't "fall off" it. You simply go back on Phase I for a while to get your weight or cravings back under control! In the times of my life that I've been thin, that's exactly how I watched my weight in the first place!

The book talked about the glycemic index of carbs, transfat in our food, good fats such as olive and canola oil, and increased fiber. Isn't this just going back to a simpler way of eating? This does not mean simpler to prepare. I was so use to picking up those convenient mixes in the supermarket, and it can be expensive if you follow the menu's to the letter. I find that I can substitute without problems by using the allowable food lists.

I first heard of The South Beach Diet from an advertisement when I was reading my Yahoo mail. I thought it was just another Atkins plan but after doing some research, I find that I like the idea of good fat/good carb, low glycemic index foods, and increased fiber in my diet! Certain carbs are restricted in the diet and are chosen by the glycemic index rather than amount of carbs as on the Atkins diet.

I did a search on google and found free forums such as Prevention SBD, MSN SBD, and Yahoo has numerous forums for SBD! South Beach also has their own website that you can subscribe to, and of course, don't forget to buy the book!

FOR DIABETIC BEACHERS!

Have you heard of Rick Mendosa? He is a writer specializing in Diabetes and can be found at www.mendosa.com He produces a monthly newsletter, has written for numerous diabetes magazines and did a review of the South Beach Diet. You can find his review at http://www.mendosa.com/diabetes_update_60.htm I was pleasantly surprized to find out that I'm not alone in my opinion of this diet. If you are diabetic, please check out his website, you will find more information than you can read in a month!

The South Beach Diet is divided into three Phases. Phase I is to rid your body of the cravings associated with carbs and lasts two weeks. Phase II is the part of the diet where the majority of weight loss occurs and you follow it until you reach your goal weight. Phase III is maintenance. On the following pages you will find explanations of the phases of the diet.
